What do artists Markki Stroem, Arman Ferrer and Poppert Bernadas have in common?
They are all tenors.
But the three gentlemen are also versatile performers in multimedia.
Markki, aside from being a controversial television, film and stage actor is also a singer and so with Poppert who might not be as talked- about showbiz personality as the former but is as enigmatic and talented as anyone else.
Arman might not be a movie actor yet but no one can underestimate his powerful vocal and acting performances on video and theater, one of them, the musical “Maynila sa Mga Kuko ng Liwanag.”
Imagine all these three musical geniuses performing orm live separately although the concept of their respective shows is collectively called “Triple Threats,” a trilogy, to signify their multitalented facets as artists.
“No, we aren’t here as threats to each one. We are, as a matter of fact, collaborating with each other,” qualified Ferrer during the intimate presscon of their gigs held Tuesday afternoon at the Tanghalang Ignacio Gimenez, also known as TIG, the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ Black Box Theater where their respective shows will be staged.
The confab was attended by Margarita Moran-Floirendo, CCP President and Alexander Cortez, CCP Artistic Consultant.
“The three of us aren’t threats to one another,” Stroem reiterated in more ways than one which was short of denial of competition.
Ariel Yonzon, CCP Production and Exhibition Department Head clarified that “Triple Threats” is just to showcase the versatility of the three tenors and nothing of the trio’s rivalry.
Markki opens the series with his concert billed “Leading” on October 14 where he will sing as many as he can although when his fans would expect his arresting rendition of “Matatapos din” composed by William Elvin Manzano from the popular musical “Mula sa Buwan.”
The second act called “All of Me” by Arman follows on November 18 where he will perform varied music like Broadway songs such as “Music of the Night” by Andrew Lloyd Weber from the musical “Phantom of the Opera.”
Poppert will take the final show titled “Ang Musika, ang Teatro at Ako” on December 21 where he will render songs like “Buktot” whose lyrics were penned by National Artist for Literature Bienvenido Lumbera with music by Ryan Cayabyab from the Filipino musical “Rama, Hari.”
The three concerts will begin at 7:30 pm.
