According to Noel Ferrer, MMFF publicist, even if cinemas operators themselves said, that reportedly, the 2021 MMFF’s first day was dismal, it was still a feat considering its positive response from the audience who translated it to box-office success.
The race on the supremacy at the box-office among the eight official entries to the 47th Metro Manila Film Festival is very much on.
Although there’s no individual ranking accorded the earnings of each entry, there’s an overall result tally as per partial receipts at the tills, especially during the opening of the in-person screening of the festival on Christmas Day (December 25).
Initial talks and impressions among showbiz insiders said that there was a lukewarm reception to this year’s film event although optimism rises high on the part of the organizers, among them the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA).
According to Noel Ferrer, MMFF publicist, even if cinemas operators themselves said, that reportedly, the 2021 MMFF’s first day was dismal, it was still a feat considering its positive response from the audience who translated it to box-office success.
“In fact, the first day gross alone this year covered 1/3 of the total MMFF Online gross (in its entire run) last year,” informed Noel in his social media account.
“Cinemas Operators (mismo ang nagsabi na kahit nauna nang naiulat na matumal at hindi tulad ng) said that initially the first day wasn’t that hit as reported unlike) pre-pandemic proportions (ang mga tao, ‘yung) December 25 opening (pa rin ang) still it’s the highest grossing day nila since they re-opened kahit may pandemic-NOT EVEN THE BIG HOLLYWOOD FILMS (like ‘ETERNALS”) are able to approximate the gross that MMFF 2021 has generated so far,” he explained.
The eight entries to this year’s film fest are: “Love at First Stream” (ABS-CBN Film Productions); “Huling Ulan sa Tag-araw” (Heaven’s Best Entertainment; “Nelia” (A and Q Film Production); “Big Night” (Cignal Entertainment, IdeaFirst Company, Octobertrain Films and Quantum Film); “A Hard Day” (Viva Entertainment); “Kun Maupay Man It Panahon (Whether the Weather is Fine)” (Cinematografica, Plan C, House on Fire etc.); “Huwag Kang Lalabas” (Obra Maestra and Cineko Productions) and “The Exorsis” (TinCan Productions).
