BARANGAY Poblacion Chairman Alex Sotto of Castilla, Sorsogon was recently recognized by Rotary International for his steadfast commitment to help others and continuing support for the group’s humanitarian initiatives.
Rotary International is an international service organization composed of business and professional leaders providing humanitarian service and promoting goodwill and peace around the world.
It is a non-political and non-religious organization open to all people regardless of race, color, religion, gender, or political preference with the motto “service above self”
It has an estimated 35,000 member-clubs worldwide with 1.2 million individual members, known as Rotarians.
Local Rotarians are engaged in various humanitarian missions such as providing free medical assistance, providing livelihood opportunities and other noble projects designed to help the poor and the disadvantaged in various areas of the country.
As an independent organization, it depends a lot on the generosity of its members to finance their humanitarian projects and promotion of peace and goodwill.
Because of his continued commitment to the cause of the organization, Sotto, a past president of Rotary Pasig, was recognized by Rotary International District 3800.
A trophy was given to him for his unequivocal generosity to their cause last November 16, 2019 at Sofitel Hotel, Manila.
When asked for his reaction Sotto said,
‘I learn to give not because I have much, but because I know exactly how it feels to have nothing.’
Known colleagues of PB Sotto such as Jose Boyette Coronel, also a past Rotary president, who knows his humble beginnings were vouching for integrity and willingness to help.
“He started with nothing and yet he persevered to where he is now – a successful businessman yet also serving the people of Poblacion not to mention those he assisted in terms of scholarships and other forms of assistance,” Coronel said. (Jun de Leoz)
