FOR almost two years now, local government units and even the provincial government of Batangas (and elsewhere) have been doing it.
Readying, mapping, charting, listing, delivering, and distributing relief goods.
In big cities like Manila, the list of food packages reaches as high as hundreds of thousands of them.
In the province (Batangas), it's also a never-ending tale of the ayuda.
Nothing wrong with this of course as people need it so much these days especially the most impacted and less fortunate amid the never-ending pandemic tale of the coronavirus.
We join our hands up for a round of applause for the endeavor of LGUs and so with provincial governments throughout the Philippines in these trying times.
Aside from the usual ayuda, the provincial government led by Batangas Governor Hermilando Mandanas, also periodically provides and distributes educational cash assistance of at least P3,000 per scholar, laptops for teachers, tablets, vitamins, face masks, face shields, PPEs, etc.
Just forget about that omnipresent life-size replica of Gov. Dodo for photo/selfie purposes for recipients of this or that ayuda at distribution centers.
The province also openly provides quarantine quarters to Covid-positive and takes care of Covid-stricken patients so well one would even cry for the generosity afforded.
Thus, here lies the positive side of the never-ending, sweeping menace of Covid.
Caring and generosity before were alien words to LGUs until after the virus came.
People are now also getting free anti-Covid jabs or vaccines. Millions of it.
Thanks but no thanks to Covid because that’s really the optimal responsibility of LGUs, to provide the welfare of the people.
