Graduating from university is a momentous occasion, a stepping stone into the real world where employment rights and work ethics become paramount.
Recognizing this critical transition in the lives of young graduates, the local government of Sto. Tomas City, in collaboration with educational institutions, recently took a proactive step to prepare the youth for the challenges of the job market ahead of them.
Under the directive of Mayor Arth Jhun Aguilar Marasigan, the "Labor Education for Graduating Students Job Fair" was held at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines.
This event, spearheaded by Vice Mayor Cathy Jaurigue-Perez and supported by members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod, aimed to acquaint graduating students with their employment rights and instill in them the importance of proper work ethics.
In collaboration with the Public Employment Service Office and Ms. Ann Jelyn F. Natividad from the Department of Labor and Employment, this initiative sought to bridge the knowledge gap that often exists between academia and the workforce.
It is not enough to simply earn a degree. Graduates must also understand their rights and responsibilities as employees in a dynamic job market.
The orientation session covered a wide range of crucial topics. Students were introduced to their employment rights, ensuring they were aware of the protections afforded to them under the law. Equally important, they delved into the realm of work ethics, understanding that success in any career is not only about skills but also about professionalism, integrity, and responsibility.
Furthermore, the event provided insights into in-demand job opportunities and other essential employment-related information.
With representatives from 16 companies offering job opportunities to the 600 graduating students in attendance, it was an opportunity for direct engagement and networking.
This commendable initiative, backed by the local government and educational institutions, goes beyond just academic knowledge. It is about empowering the youth with practical skills and insights, ensuring they step into the workforce well-prepared and confident. In an ever-evolving job market, where adaptability and knowledge are key, initiatives like these are invaluable.
As these young minds embark on their professional journeys, equipped with a deeper understanding of their rights and the importance of work ethics, they will not only contribute effectively to their workplaces but also become responsible and ethical members of the workforce. This proactive approach to preparing our graduates for the future is an investment in the prosperity of our community and the nation as a whole.
In a world that is constantly changing, learning doesn't stop at graduation. STC's Labor Education Initiative serves as a reminder that education extends beyond the classroom, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that our graduates are not only academically adept but also ethically grounded and fully aware of their rights as they embark on their professional journeys.
