Phivolcs’ 7:30 p.m. bulletin on Friday stated that it “observed generally declining volcanic gas emission, very slight ground deformation, and positive microgravity anomalies since July 9.”

LAUREL, Batangas -- THE Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) announced late Friday that it has downgraded Alert Level at Taal volcano from 3 to No. 2.

The volcanic monitoring bureau of DOST said the downgrading of the alert level was prompted by the "cessation of eruptive activity."

Phivolcs’ 7:30 p.m. bulletin on Friday stated that it “observed generally declining volcanic gas emission, very slight ground deformation, and positive microgravity anomalies since July 9.”

"In view of the above observations, DOST-PHIVOLCS is lowering the alert status of Taal Volcano from Alert Level 3 to Alert Level 2 to reflect the overall decreasing trend in the level of monitoring parameters," it said.

However, the Phivolcs made it clear that Alert Level 2 should not be interpreted as “unrest has ceased or that the threat of an eruption has totally disappeared."

It was on July 1, 2021 that the Phivolcs raised the Alert Level to No. 3 amid Taal’s heightened activity. (IAm/with reports from MaTeo Granzore)
