IT really came as a big surprise following the sudden surge of Covid-19 infections in the city of Sto. Tomas, Batangas last Thursday, 18 November 2021, where the LGU logged 41 new positive cases.

It came at a time when cases of Covid-19 are on the decline, tumbling down to almost nil in some areas, and then the city would chalk up 41 new positive infections.

Forty-one cases were indeed surprising as on that day only nine other local government units in the province reported to the provincial health office with nothing but minimal cases for they are now actually on the downtrend.

Woeful is for STC as Batangas City, the leading LGU in terms of Covid cases only had 3 that day, another city in Tanauan reported but 1, the municipality of Agoncillo – 1, Calaca – 1, Lobo – 1, Nasugbu – 2, Rosario – 1, San Juan – 1, and Tuy – 4.

Lipa City did not report to the PHO although a post on its FB page said it had 4.

As it is, the day’s total cases of 56 made the province’s total caseload go higher at 68,943 overall.

For the year 2021, the count (56) made it 57,197 including 952 active cases, 53,842 recoveries and 2,403 fatalities in the whole province.

Again, the provincial government reminded Batangueños to never forget HIM protocols which means Hugas (constant washing of hands), Iwas (social distancing) and Mask (wearing of face masks).

For almost one week now, we have been observing what we call a high-risk system and place of anti-Covid vaccine dispensation in the city of Sto. Tomas.

This is the vaccination site right outside the northern side of Jollibee Sto. Tomas City.

The site houses nothing but a tent for vaccinators while the people queue up, waiting to get their jabs exposed to sun and rain, and are closely bunched way off the one meter social distance protocol.

If they would only be honest enough to admit it, majority of those 41 new infections, if not all of them, may have come from that spot because getting exposed to sunlight plus the sudden shift in the weather are surefire ingredients of getting the flu virus leading to Covid.

We are not sure the reason behind this idea of putting up an offsite vax site like this because what we know is that the original site along with other sites located in barangay gymnasiums are good enough.

It’s good to note, this vax site is gone now.
