Pope Francis will join the Filipino faithful in the celebration of the 500th anniversary of the arrival of Christianity in the Philippines.

To highlight the importance of the 500th year celebrations of Christianity in the country, Pope Francis himself will lead the celebration of a Mass that will be held at St. Peter's Basilica on March 14, 2021 at 5 p.m.

POPE Francis is set to lead celebrations in Italy for the 500th anniversary of the arrival of Christianity in the Philippines, the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) said.

In an article at the CBCP website, Ricky Gente, a Scalabrinian priest of the Filipino Chaplaincy in Rome, said the Pope will lead the Mass that will be held at St. Peter's Basilica on March 14, 2021 at 5 p.m.

Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, former Manila archbishop and prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, and Cardinal Angelo De Donatis, the pope’s vicar of Rome, are also set to join the mass.

After the Mass, Pope Francis will lead the recitation of the Angelus in St. Peter’s Square.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, mass attendance will be limited, Gente said.

The proceedings will also be broadcast online.

“Join us in Rome to pray, praise and thank God for his gift of the Christian faith,” Gente was quoted as saying.
“You can also receive blessings from the pope after mass in Vatican Square where he will lead the Angelus prayer at noon,” Gente said.
