A 23-year-old woman in Italy is under intense scrutiny by health experts after she accidentally received a whole bottle – or six doses – of a Covid-19 vaccine.

A 23-year-old woman in Italy is now under intense observation after accidentally receiving six shots of the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine.

The woman went to the Noa Hospital in Tuscany on Sunday, hoping to get a dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

While her age group was not eligible to receive the vaccine just yet, she was given priority for being an intern in the hospital’s psychology department. She was considered in “good health” and had no underlying conditions.

When it was her turn, a health worker accidentally filled a syringe with one whole bottle of the vaccine, which contains a total of six doses.

The worker only realized her mistake after the shot was administered.

According to Noa hospital spokeswoman Daniella Gianelli, the healthcare worker saw five empty syringes and realized her mistake right away.

While the patient was sent home, doctors will continue to monitor her immune response to the excessive vaccine dose.

Likewise, an investigation is being made on the healthcare worker, but Gianelli suggested that it was purely human error, and not something the healthcare worker planned to do on purpose.

It is unclear whether or not the woman plans to press charges against the hospital and the healthcare worker, as only the hospital spokesperson has spoken out about the whole ordeal.

In the beginning of April, the Italian government required healthcare and pharmacy workers to be vaccinated against the virus to protect medical staff, patients, and vulnerable people.

For workers who refuse to be inoculated, the government asked for them to be reassigned to roles wherein they are not in contact with patients. In places where that is not an option, they face suspension without pay. (MO)
