Filipina tennis phenom Alex Eala wins opening match at W25 World Tennis Tour

The teenage Filipina tennis prodigy stunned spectators with her win against Swiss Simona Waltert with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at the International Tennis Federation W25 World Tennis Tour last Wednesday.

ALEX Eala, the 15-year old Filipina tennis prodigy continues to impress as she won her opening match at the International Tennis Federation W25 World Tennis Tour.

She defeated Swiss Simona Waltert 6-1, 6-4 in Manacor, Spain.

Eala only took 1 hour and 45 minutes to claim the victory over her 20-year old opponent.

Quick start

Using adept forehand volleys, the 15-year-old Filipina claimed two break points, and converted them to lead at 5-1in the first set.

In the second set, Waltert and Eala engaged in a back-and-forth action. It was Eala who broke quickly in the opening but Waltert replied with a break of her own.

In the next two games, Eala held serve and won 3-2. Waltert evened up with Eala with a break, 3-3, but the Filipina was relentless and got a break point in the next game that gave her a 4-3 lead.

Eala will be moving on to the second round 16-player pool tournament.

She is expected to face Jana Fett, a 24-year Croatian tennis player, who is ranked 3rd in the competition.

The ITF W25 Manacor Tourney is Eala’s 5th professional tournament. She is currently ranked 763rd in the WTA world rankings. (NP)
