We all know how hard-working Gov. Hermilando Mandanas is.

We all know that there is no let-up in the provincial government's distribution of cash assistance to provincial scholars and everything.

We also know that distribution of relief goods: groceries in Dura-box, of canned goods, sacks of rice to all barangays in the province of Batangas; have had, been, and still doing right now as we write this piece.

Taal Victims

But, really it's hard to please everyone especially amid the pandemic for no matter how carefully planned and soundly monitored, recovery efforts are from a slew of destruction from calamities topped by that phreatic eruption of Taal volcano exactly over a year ago, chances are, other programs of the province related to it might be overlooked.

And that's what happened.

That's exactly the story of some 100 families of Pulo Island of Taal.

Yes, they are still accordingly trying hard to make ends meet and find a decent place of abode they can transfer, move into exactly 12 months following the aftermath of Taal volcano eruption.

These residents are still lodged, crammed in tents at a relocation site in Barangay Makina in Balete, Batangas, my tweeter said.

Making their plight worse is the absence of electricity and potable water on their temporary shelters confided my suki on fruits and vegetables at the public market of Sto. Tomas City.

New Homes

The municipal government of Balete was able to buy two hectares of land in Barangay Solis for a separate relocation site but construction and development of which into decent houses for them are yet to commence.

We're not, however, blaming the provincial government for ineptitude or inaction for their welfare as around 286 families from Barangay Calawit of Pulo Island have had already been given a new home as promised.

It could only be that the 100 families still living in tents cannot wait any longer given their present predicament.

Forthcoming

But we're very sure help for them from the office of Governor Mandanas is forthcoming.

And it would really be a big disappointment for a province hailed as second-richest in the country and richest the whole of Calabarzon Region if it cannot come to the rescue of 100 Batangueno families.
