Obligations To Love (or the lack of them)

Valentine's Day is just another day, a lot like how every New Year is just a number, or how Christmas isn't the only opportunity to give good things and get together with those you care about.

Valentine's Day is coming, and it is the first (and hopefully last) time we might be celebrating it during the course of this pandemic. Love, hearts, dates, sweets—a number of these thoughts and ideas may enter our minds at the consideration of this annual celebration following the theme of love.

Naturally, not all of us may be so concerned, if at all, about this day. This would appear especially typical if one does not have a lover.

Even so, if one such person would want to acknowledge or celebrate it regardless, that would be absolutely acceptable.

After all, for what purpose is such a day other than for anyone interested to enjoy it in their own way?

You could watch a romantic movie, listen to love song playlists, or play video games you like so much you might consider it romantic attraction. You could even do anything you enjoy at all, romance-related or not. Show yourself some love.

Love Day With Family

Loved ones may not be limited to romantic relationships or partners, but this may also include friends and family.

I recall one Valentine's Day spent a few years ago treating my grandmother to lunch at a Japanese restaurant as a small expression of gratitude towards her.

Not much else happened on that day, but it was a good one.

Were it not for the limitations of our current situation, I would gladly spend the day with either friends or family somehow; a simple lunch out among other activities spent together.

Be Creative With LDR

For lovers seeking to do something special for the day in spite of this whole pandemic still happening, it's always possible to do most of the same things you could do before, just with more health-related restrictions. If you live together or close to each other, that's convenient.

Longer distance relationships, however, may need to be more creative with their activities.

Then again, such a thing is already expected of this sort of relationship.

I believe the important thing to keep in mind is that Valentine's Day is just another day, a lot like how every New Year is just a number, or how Christmas isn't the only opportunity to give good things and get together with those you care about (of course, with proper health precautions and limits in place).

Celebrate With Yourself, Too

There is always every other day to show the people you love how much you love them, all in different forms of expression, tangible or otherwise.

Whether or not you choose to celebrate Valentine's Day at all, I believe there are many different opportunities to celebrate love and the people you want to show it to — even yourself.
