IT’S all wordplay and rhetoric. They can call it plain giving. I call it showy, fancy kindness with a hook-line-and-sinker. It cannot be any less politicking of a sort.

Under what circumstances and reason, a politico would flaunt cash to the public, and so paint himself genuinely generous? Often only during elections. For what? To help? Only a stupid fool would think so. The audacity of politicos in exhibiting their wealth during election time is not kindness. No. It’s soliciting votes. They’re handing cash for that sole purpose alone. Nothing else. It cannot be kindness, nor will be.

By resorting to the pompous act, they wrongfully thought it can boost their influence and power. How pathetic of a view that would be if they alone trust their money to build the foundation of their leadership. What if they ran out of money? Is that why a penniless candidate hardly wins an election.

Do the poor need that bill of 100 pesos – or the most: 1,000 pesos cash? Is the cash a matter of life and death that its loss could mean death or its meager presence means life? Of course, the poor can make life without it! Their pitiful cash of 1k wouldn’t make them less poor, nor its absence makes them needier. The likelihood of pompous, parading politicos insulting the poor is high. That is taking advantage of their weakness.

Voters can vote and will vote, regardless. That is why it is wrong for Leny Robredo to suggest to the public that they accept money from politicos. For what? Because it’s theirs? It’s the people’s money? To do that is to condone and allow politicos to rob money from the government. Prudence will dictate that it is wrong. It sends a wrong signal to the politicos. In fact, and because the culture of the voting public during the election period centers on accepting vote money, the politicos once in power thought they have all the reasons to get back all the money they have invested in people by buying votes. That it’s ok if they get SOP, and it’s okay if they plunder public funds. After all, they have invested a huge amount of cash by giving to the poor.

So, for our sake, let us stop this insult and mockery of our election processes. We can be better electors and candidates. An election can proceed without politicos flaunting their wealth to the insult of the poor and the public as if we the public loath after their meager worthless bills. Nakakabiling gadman kita bisan talagudti la.

I am persuaded that we are more than able to raise the bar of our election processes, that is, free of bribery, vote-buying, soliciting, and selling. Just simple plain and clean election.
