“More than just “aiming high” or aspiring for the best, “hitting the mark” is striking the lofty core of human development, the profundity or meaningfulness of life – which, in a sublime instance, will pave the way for authentic success and happiness.”

A well-lived and meaningful life is not a mediocre life – no arguing about it.

Webster defines “mediocrity” as “the quality or state of being just average.”

Of course, there’s nothing wrong with just aiming for the average. Opting for an average life seems but “natural”. But, “natural” is also defined as “ordinary”.

I do fondly recall what my former classmate in high school – who later entered the Philippine Military Academy and became a high-ranking military official – told me many years back: “To be successful, you have to aim high and hit the mark.”

Yes, I agree, success may demand aiming high, dreaming big, gunning for the best or not settling for anything average or ordinary. Simply put, success is moving beyond mediocrity.

But, reckoning seriously what my high school classmate said, I’ve come to realize then that “hitting the mark" is far more important than just “aiming high”.

In life, I like to think, what counts more is not how prestigious or lucrative your aspiration is, but how profound or meaningful (to you, of course) is your dream.

What is more exigent is not accomplishing the best to earn the praise of others, but to give your best to satisfy your heart’s desire.

Hence, more than just “aiming high” or aspiring for the best, “hitting the mark” is striking the lofty core of human development, the profundity or meaningfulness of life – which, in a sublime instance, will pave the way for authentic success and happiness.

These beautiful and inarguably profound lines, from an anonymous source, are truly spot on:

“Don’t just learn, experience.

Don’t just change, transform.

Don’t just relate, advocate.

Don’t just promise, prove.

Don’t just criticize, encourage.

Don’t just think, ponder.

Don’t just take, give.

Don’t just see, feel.

Don’t just dream, do.

Don’t just hear, listen.

Don’t just talk, act.

Don’t just tell, show.

Don’t just exist, live.

Don’t just work for a living, work for significance in what you do.

Don’t just work for results, work for positive relationships that bring

out best results.

Don’t just work for success, work for a happy and meaningful life.”

And oh, one last thing: DON’T JUST READ THIS, ABSORB.
