It’s not only here, nor there.

They’re everywhere.

And they’re still very much at it as gleaned on news items pertaining multitude of buy-busts among pushers and users. Thus, victims abound.

The most recent of which is the Laurel rape-slay case of a 15-year-old student victimized by no other than her 19-year-old cousin who was supposed to help her on some school assignments on her module.

Any individual with a sane mind and whose judgment is unmolested by any kind of addictive drug will not, and is not capable of doing just that especially to a next of kin – rape, and then snuff the breath out of her.

The perpetrator, who coaxed his cousin to go with him into a wooded area in their barangay, with module in tow, is presumably under the influence of a prohibited drug.

And for the victim to go with him in that direction must have ample trust towards her cousin and perhaps she was thinking it was still safe to venture into the woods as the crime accordingly happened around noontime.

At first, the 19-year-old assailant pointed an accusing finger at a barangay police enforcer whom he said he saw together with his cousin that time of day.

However, co-workers attested in favor of the tanod whom they corroborated about his claim he was on duty the whole day at the barangay center when the rape-slay happened.

Bothered by his conscience, the 19-year-old yielded and owned up as the perpetrator of what could be the horrendous crime of the year in the province of Batangas.

We are convinced, the suspect was under the influence of drugs when he did that dastardly act.

Sorry to anti-drug and pro-anti-drug groups but President Duterte’s war on drugs as though only scratched the surface of the country’s drug menace.

Everywhere drug buy-busts happen every day.

Inday Sara’s chief information officer even had to resign after his/her name came up as one of the guests at a party that was later raided by elements of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.

It’s really happening, still happening; here, there, and everywhere.

Until we came to this point in time where we wait for the next victim to come out in the news.

And perhaps, only God knows when drug use will ever stop, if ever, it will.

Stay safe everyone.
