Art festivals are not a thing of the past.

The COVID-19 pandemic brought a pause in art exhibits, but Ortigas Malls have had enough.

The 4th Ortigas Arts Festival is pushing through this year. After months of no exhibits at all, artists now have the chance to showcase their art pieces in an onsite venue in the East Wing of Estancia, Capital Commons, Pasig City.

The festival, open to the public for free until March 31, shows off the outstanding works of hundreds of local and international artists of different media.

Architect Renee Bacani, the vice president of Ortigas Malls, proudly said that the festival was a way of expressing support for the local communities of artists and giving a platform to them.

This year’s theme is aligned to the campaign of the Malls: Enjoy Everyday. Bacani said, “[It] promotes the importance of making every day enjoyable and seizing every opportunity despite the many challenges that life may bring.”

Moreover, this year’s artworks are available both onsite and virtually, considering that technology and the internet have seen a spike in the last year because of the stay-at-home protocols.

There are e-mentoring sessions and virtual workshops for aspiring artists at home by highly esteemed artists like Alberto Garcia, Franz Lopez, Bhong Odal, Maritess Ortigas, Sister Jenny Yasa, and more!

Filmmakers and aspiring filmmakers can also join the Vertical Cinema Contest, a collaboration between the Film Development Council of the Philippines and Ortigas Malls. Submissions must be two-minute short films in portrait orientation, shot using a phone camera, about “The Beauty of Everyday”.

So many artworks of different media await! Catch exhibits of eyecatching photographs, sculptures, paintings, and more here at the Ortigas Arts Festival.

“As long as the community continues to remain dedicated to pursuing the craft and enthusiasts continue to support, the art industry will thrive,” Renato Habulan said.

Indeed, art festivals are not a thing of the past.

The festival is open to the public, but health protocols must be observed. Prepare your face mask, face shield, sanitizers, and Pasig Pass. (EFO)
