Interested volunteers for the upcoming FIBA World Cup 2023 are now welcome to apply according to SBP.

The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) launched the Volunteers Program of the Local Organizing Committee which seeks to find people that will be trained and deployed for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 from August 25 to September 10, 2023.

SBP President Al Panlilio said on November 30, that the LOC is looking to recruit no less than 500 highly- motivated volunteers who embody the spirit of “Bayanihan” and who can show the world the Filipino brand of hospitality, reported Spin.ph.

“It’s very important yung Volunteers Program. We have an LOC (Local Organizing Committee) right now with about 80-plus people. But hosting this magnitude of an event, we do need a big group or a big pool of volunteers. We’re actually looking at 500 people to help,” said Panlillio at the launch at Novotel Manila.
“So importante ito kasi we want to ensure that the experience of the players, and even the fans and also the officials of Fiba is excellent, and with that warmth of the Filipino.”

Joining Panlillio during the event were SBP executive director and spokesperson Sonny Barrios, deputy event director for World Cup Erika Dy, and Volunteers Program head Art Aro.

According to the official FIBA website, interested applicants must be at least 18 or turning 18 by August 1, 2023, fluent in English and Filipino, although knowledge of a third foreign language is a plus, fit to render work, confident and comfortable dealing with stressful situations and situations of conflict.

Additionally, all volunteers must present their proof of vaccination and must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Most importantly, volunteers must be Philippine residents to be able to participate.

The FIBA called for volunteers on its website, saying, "A major component of the success of any event is volunteering, and the volunteers who make events such as the FIBA Basketball World Cup so enjoyable for fans and participants are instrumental to its success."

The 2023 World Cup is set to be staged at the Araneta Coliseum and Mall of Asia Arena in Manila for the group stage, and the final round will be played at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan.
