PlayStation gamers will no longer be able to watch movies on the console, after Sony announced they will discontinue the service after August.

THERE are many ways you can buy or rent movies online and one of them happens to be on the PlayStation Store.

However, Sony has released a statement that they will be discontinuing this service after August 31 this year.

In an official statement, Sony cites the increased use of subscription and ad-based streaming services on their consoles, referring to the available apps on the PS Store such as Netflix and HBO Max.

Also, any content that players have already purchased will still be available for viewing.

This is not a surprising turn of events as streaming services have dominated the scene especially during the pandemic as people were forced to stay indoors for safety.

Many brands have yet to become available in the country (or in the region), however. Hulu, Disney+, and Peacock have yet to come to our shores.

There are local services available too such as Cinetropa for independent Filipino films and iwantTV for ABS-CBN shows. (HD)
