May this Eid bring blessings for the entire humanity so that we can walk on the path of peace and harmony. Eid Mubarak!

In observance of the Eid'l Fitr, Malacanang declared tomorrow, May 3, a regular holiday in the country following the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao's announcement.

On Sunday, the Bangsamoro Darul-Ifta’ or the Islamic religious authority in BARMM declared that Eid’l Fitr, or the Feast of Breaking the Fast, falls on the evening of Monday, May 2.

May 2 is automatically a non-working holiday in BARMM while the following day is declared a non-working regular holiday as declared by the President.

The Islamic holiday is calculated in accordance with the sighting of the new moon by an official sighting committee in local Mosques.

Bangsamoro Sheikh Abu Huraira Udasan said the groups assigned to perform the moon sighting on Sunday, which marked the 29th of Ramadan, finally sighted the crescent moon.

“Based on this, the Bangsamoro Mufti has declared that the Eid”l-Fitr will be tomorrow Monday 1st of Shawwal 1443H. corresponding to the 2nd day of May 2022. In Sha Allah,” Udasan said in a memorandum from the office of the Bangsamoro Mufti dated May 1.

Eid'l Fitr is celebrated with Muslims taking part in unique prayers, specific to the holiday, performed in a congregation.

The Bangsamoro Government conducted its Eid'l Fitr Congregational Prayer inside the Bangsamoro Government Center this morning, the first time a public gathering was conducted in the BGC since the Covid-19 pandemic began.

To send well wishes to our Muslim friends on their holiday, the most common greeting is “Eid Mubarak”, an Arabic term that translates to “Blessed Feast/ Festival”.

Another popular greeting in the Philippines is "Salamat Hariraya Puwasa" a Malay greeting that roughly translates to “Happy Day of Celebration.”

On this holiday, people would celebrate their successful fasting by wearing new clothes, giving alms to the poor, distributing sweets, and eating traditional dishes.

Eid Mubarak!
