Malacañang Palace “fine-tuned” the proposed 2023 budget as DBM is scheduled to submit the proposed budget on August 22.

The Palace said yesterday that the proposed national budget for 2023 is being “fine-tuned” but assured that it will be submitted to Congress on time. The proposed national budget was the main agenda during President Ferdinand Marcos Jr's special Cabinet meeting.

“It’s a special Cabinet meeting, ang pinag-usapan po namin tungkol sa budget. Nagpresinta ang Department of Budget and Management at ipinakita yung proposed submission for Congress, may mga input galing sa iba’t ibang kalihim para sa fine-tuning na ito,” Press Secretary Rose Beatrix Cruz-Angeles stated.

Angeles said that the topmost priorities in the 2023 national budget remain the same as most of the budget was created by the previous administration. Additionally, education remains among the top priorities in the proposed budget for next year as the resumption of face-to-face classes this year was also part of the special Cabinet meeting.

Angeles clarified that the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) will submit the proposed national budget to Congress on August 22.

“Following the special Cabinet Meeting held earlier today, the DBM shall undertake the printing of the Budget Documents, which includes the printing of the National Expenditure Program (NEP), Budget of Expenditures and Sources of Financing, Staffing Summary, and the President’s Budget Message,” Cruz-Angeles said in a statement.“DBM is scheduled to submit the Budget Documents to the President on 19 August 2022, not next week as mentioned earlier in the press briefing, and the same is expected to be submitted to Congress on August 22,” she added.

Angeles also added that the 2023 national budget seeks to promote broad-based and inclusive economic recovery and growth.
