Public utility vehicles under the Department of Transportation's Libreng Sakay program should not be collecting fares, the agency said.

According to LTFRB, over ₱36.9-M have been distributed as initial payouts to drivers as of April 9, 2021. Each driver is said to have received ₱4,000

COMMITTED to protecting the riding public from abusive drivers, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) today reminded commuters to report violations by drivers who are enrolled under the government’s service contracting program.

This, after the transport bodies receive reports that drivers of public utility jeepney (PUJ) and public utility bus (PUB) units deployed for the Libre Skay program were actually collecting and accepting fares from passengers.

In its statement, LTFRB strongly condemns any exploitation of commuters by PUV drivers in the name of safer and effective public transportation.

It said there are two ways to report such violations to LTFRB:

1.LTFRB’s 24/7 Hotline 1342, official Facebook page, and website.

2.Sakay.ph app

Sakay.ph is working with the agency to monitor public vehicles under the program.

All Libre Sakay vehicles should be registered in the app by their plate number and monitored in real-time.

Commuters can give the vehicle feedback and rating of 1 to 5 stars. The categories to review are the following:

1.Driver behavior;

2.Maintenance and cleanliness of the vehicle;

3.Passenger overall experience during the ride;

4.Safety;

5.Punctuality.

The agency also reminds passengers that the drivers will receive incentives for positive feedbacks and 5-star reviews.

Yesterday, DOTr announced that they will be doubling the incentives given to drivers under the program.

The incentives received by bus drivers have gone up from ₱46.80 per kilometer to ₱82.50, while the modern public utility jeepney (MPUJ) drivers may now receive ₱52.50 per from ₱46.80.

According to LTFRB, over ₱36.9-M have been distributed as initial payouts to drivers as of April 9, 2021. Each driver is said to have received ₱4,000.

Drivers received their payouts through account deposits on their Landbank of the Philippines (LBP) or E-Wallet (GCash) account.

“Sa ating mga drayber, nawa’y samantalahin po ninyo ng pagkakataong ito na magkaroon ng dagdag na kita mula sa gobyerno,” said DOTr Secretary Arthur P. Tugade. “Nais po namin kayong tulungan habang tayo ay nasa gitna ng pandemya”.

The app is downloadable through the Apple App Store and Google Play.
