NCR shifts back to Alert Level 3 and cinemas will see their reopening starting October 16. However, a one-seat apart rule will be observed inside the cinemas which might not go very well for many moviegoers.

THAT wonderful experience and excitement of going to the movies with your friends, family or partners might have to be shelved for now.

Because even as the National Capital Region (NCR) has already shifted to Covid-19 Alert Level 3, and cinemas were allowed to operate, only 30 percent of their total capacity will be allowed inside.

Conversely, it means that the moviegoers will have to be seated one seat apart purportedly to observe social distancing, thus instantly eliminating the joy of going to the theaters especially with a special partner.

This system would especially affect lovers who were dating and used to spending their time together inside the theaters as a form of bonding.

The experience of going out to the movies is certainly going to be different now.

Alongside having to follow a one seat apart rule, moviegoers would also adjust in watching a movie with a face mask on.

If there is one good thing going for the reopening of cinemas, it’s that after more than a year, people will get to see movies on the big screen and will get to enjoy the luxury of focusing on a movie without the external distractions inside their houses.

It is exciting to see how the reopening of the cinemas will go for the Philippines.

Not only will people have more leisure activities to do now but more importantly, those in the movie industry will get to have their livelihoods back.

P21-B losses

According to the Cinema Exhibitors Association of the Philippines (CEAP), around 7,000 workers lost their jobs during the pandemic because of the shutting down of movie theaters.

This also contributed to an estimated loss of P21 billion in the film industry as the only means of release available was on streaming platforms.

It is mandated by the Inter-Agency Task Force that under COVID-19 Alert Level 3, several establishments will be allowed to operate at 30% indoor venue capacity only for fully vaccinated individuals, and 50% outdoor venue capacity, provided that all employees are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Other establishments to reopen starting Saturday are libraries, archives, museums, and cultural centers; meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions; theme parks and tourist attractions to resume operations.
