The group’s ultimate goal in working together is to illuminate the arts and cultural scene in Iloilo and elevate it to a status that is at par with the best of the world.

The debut exhibition was called “Bùtlak”, a Hiligaynon word that means sunrise in English. It served as a new beginning for Sanag to unleash their creativity and potential through their masterpieces.

ILONGGO artists call this architectural showroom a safe haven where their artistry, creativity, and wild ideas are honed and showcased.

A.R. Sculptura Space, owned by Joseph Carl Albert and Margarette Albacete-Pampliega, combines art and architecture. Margarette is an architect and environmental planner, and Joseph Carl is an interior designer and sculptor.

They are both artists of their own caliber, and that’s why they decided to put up this architectural showroom. That’s also the reason why they hosted the debut of Sanag, a group of Ilonggo artists.

The debut exhibition was called “Bùtlak”, a Hiligaynon word that means sunrise in English. It served as a new beginning for Sanag to unleash their creativity and potential through their masterpieces.

Included in the exhibit were the works of the couple’s artist friends namely Kristoffer Brasileño, Mel John Corral, Franc Garcia, Vivien Gardose, Rey Denzil Gico, Arthur Jusa Jr., Madhu Liebscher, Jovin Militar, and Frank Alexi Ymalay Nobleza.

In this showroom, this group of friends discusses arts and culture, especially that of Iloilo.

“The art scene in Iloilo is not yet mature. It needs to focus and have direction [if it wants] to achieve its desire to be an art capital,” says the curator of Sanag’s initial exhibit Liby Limoso.

Thus, the group’s ultimate goal in working together in A.R. Sculptura Space is to illuminate the arts and cultural scene of Iloilo and elevate it to a status that is at par with the best of the world.

This is the common plight of artists in the Philippines, especially those in the provinces.

Arts and culture are often overlooked to the point of irrelevance to the eyes of the public, and passionate artists like those who belong in Sanag are determined to show the world that they deserve recognition and empowerment.
