Huge boost: PH receives 5-M more Covid-19 vaccines

The latest shipment of five million Covid-19 vaccines last September 19 brought the country's total number of vaccine doses received to 64.2 million.

The country received two million doses of Pfizer Covid-19 vaccines purchased by the national government on Sunday night (September 19), while three million additional doses of Sinovac vaccines arrived the same day.

Vaccine czar Carlito Galvez, Jr. welcomed the arrival of the US-made doses at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) together with other government officials and WHO representative Dr. Rabindra Abeyasinghe before the vaccines were delivered to PharmaServ's cold-chain facility in Marikina City.

The latest batch of vaccine doses will be distributed to several provinces in Regions 3, 4A, 6, 7, and 11 while some of them will be used for second dose in the National Capital Region.

The three million doses of Sinovac vaccine which arrived at 5:30 p.m. were airlifted by Philippine Airlines (PAL) while the Pfizer doses arrived via Emirates Airlines at 11:30 p.m.

The latest shipment brought the country's total number of vaccine doses received to 64.2 million.

On Saturday, some 961,000 doses of Moderna vaccine arrived in Manila at 3:45 a.m. aboard China Airlines while Russian-made Sputnik V vaccine flew in late Saturday night via Qatar Airways.

On the other hand, PAL on Friday (September 17) has airlifted vaccines in Cagayan de Oro, Davao, GenSan, Iloili, Legazpi, Pagadian totalling 57,000 doses.

While budget carrier Cebu Pacific (CEB) has transported 10.6 million Covid-19 vaccine doses across the country since March, and over the past two weeks the airline airlifted vaccine doses to 19 areas in Visayas and Mindanao, including Bacolod, Butuan, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Cotabato, Davao, Dipolog, Dumaguete, General Santos, Iloilo, Kalibo, Legazpi, Ozamiz, Pagadian, Roxas, San Jose, Siargao, Tawi-Tawi, and Zamboanga.

Siargaoamd Pagadian are the newest addition to the CEB roster.

CEB has also carried Covid-19 vaccines to Bohol, Boracay, Cauayan, Masbate, Puerto Pricesa, Tacloban, Tuguegarao, and Virac.
