The Philippines' first cancer specialty hospital will open in Taguig in 2023, focusing on providing premium cancer health care through the use of advanced medical technology.

The Philippines’ first dedicated cancer specialty hospital will open in Ayala Land’s Arca South development in Taguig City next year.

Ayala Group's response to the Cancer Control Act, which allowed the private sector to establish cancer specialty facilities to support the program, is the 100-bed Healthway Cancer Care Hospital, interaksyon reported.

Based on a study conducted by the University of the Philippines' (UP) Institute of Human Genetics, four Filipinos die of cancer every hour, for a total of 96 cancer patients each day. Meanwhile, cancer affects 189 Filipinos out of every 100,000.

Public health problem

Cancer has been a critical public health problem which held a huge impact on patients and their families, as well as the healthcare system at large. It is an urgent need to develop sustainable solutions such as the country’s first cancer specialty hospital to address this problem.

“We need to increase awareness of the disease through patient education, improve the timeliness of diagnosis through rigorous screening programs, and minimize out-of-pocket cancer expenses through affordable cancer care.” Fernando Zobel de Ayala, chairman of the board of Ayala Healthcare Holdings, Inc., said.

Partnering with Siemen's

Ayala Healthcare Holdings, Inc. partnered up with Siemens Healthineers, which is a German-based leading medical technology company, to ensure the quality of healthcare service that the hospital will be providing.

This partnership aims to strengthen the country's cancer care needs by improving patient care delivery through the use of advanced medical technology and digitalization.

Siemens Healthineers will assist the hospital by integrating appropriate diagnostic and therapy systems centered on comprehensive cancer care, ranging from medical imaging to image-guided surgery and intervention, as well as radiation therapy.

CEO and hospital president Jaime Ysmael said that the hospital aims to be a facility provided for all cancer patients. With the partnership established with Siemens Healthineers, the cancer specialty hospital will be able to deliver a premium level of precision in diagnosis, personalized care, and experience to each patient as each patient has a unique medical need.

“Accurate and timely diagnosis needed for the treatment of their condition is critical to the patient’s treatment journey, and this is our key focus in our patient care pathway.” he added.
