Eager for change: 66-M Pinoys registered for 2022 polls

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said the Calabarzon region accounted for 9.19 million voters, making it the most vote-rich region in the Philippines.

The number of registered voters for 2022 national and local elections is four million more than in 2019 or a total of 65.74 (rounded off to 66 million) distributed in 37,141 voting precincts, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) reported.

Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said the Calabarzon region (comprising Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) accounted for 9.19 million voters making it the most vote-rich region, followed by the national Capital Region (7.32 million), Central Luzon (7.29 million), Central Visayas (5.25 million) and Western Visayas (5.02 million).

Combined, the three regions have over 23.8 million out of the country’s 65,745,529 total registered voters.

During the 2019 elections, they were also the most vote-rich regions.

Their numbers are followed by Region 7 (Central Visayas) with 5,249,066 registered voters; Region 6 (Western Visayas) with 5,026,482 registered voters; Region 5 (Bicol) with 3,910,261 registered voters; Region 1 (Ilocos) with 3,546,764 registered voters; Region 11 (Davao) with 3,236,251 registered voters; Region 8 (Eastern Visayas) with 3,166,262 registered voters, and Region 10 (Northern Mindanao) with 3,060,485 registered voters.

Following them are Region 12 (Soccsksargen) with 2,606,492 registered voters; Bangsamaro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) with 2,385,359 registered voters; Region 2 (Cagayan Valley) with 2,312,798 registered voters; Region 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula) with 2,298,930 registered voters; Region 4-B (Mimaropa) with 1,991,599 registered voters; Caraga region with 1,868,798 registered voters, and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) with 1,077,900 registered voters.

Comelec data showed there would be 37,141 voting centers with 412,876 precincts and 106,174 clustered or group precincts in the 2022 elections.

Rounding up the top 10 regions with the most voters are the Bicol Region (3.91 million), Ilocos Region (3.55 million), Davao Region (3.24 million), Eastern Visayas (3.17 million), and Northern Mindanao (3.06 million).

Lower bracket

The regions with the lowest number of voters are the Cordillera Administratrative Region (1.08 million), Caraga (1.87 million), Mimaropa (1.99 million), Zamboanga Peninsula (2.3 million), Cagayan Valley Region (2.31 million), Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (2.39 million) and Soccsksargen (2.61 million).

Comelec earlier disclosed it needs the final list of voters and candidates before it could start printing the ballots for 2022 elections.

Jimenez said they expect to come out with the final list of candidates before the end of the month.
