Former senator Leila De Lima tested positive for Covid-19 and is currently in self-isolation as well as taking her prescribed medications to recover.

Detained former senator Leila De Lima tested positive for Covid-19 in both antigen and reverse transcription-polymerase chain reactions (RT-PCR) on Sunday.

De Lima said that she has been experiencing the symptoms of the virus after the hearing in one of the drug cases against her.

"When attending recent hearings in the [two] remaining trumped-up charges, with practically jampacked courtrooms, I felt it was just a matter of time before contracting the virus. So it is that last Saturday, Nov. 5, or a day after the hearing in one of the cases, I started having colds (running nose), mild cough, itchy throat and joint/body aches short of feverish, which prompted the tests," Inquirer quoted De Lima.

To recover from the virus, the former senator is currently in self-isolation (which she had been since her detention) and taking the prescribed medications.

“Now in self-isolation (nothing new for me) in my isolated detention quarters. Taking anti-viral meds as prescribed by my doctors. Resting, reading a novel, praying,” De Lima added.

De Lima also asked her staff to advise the individuals she encountered during the hearing to self-monitor themselves, and see if they also contracted the virus.

“I’ll be fine. Thank you for all the prayers and concern.” De Lima told the public.

Due to De Lima's health, Muntinlupa City Regional Trial Court Presiding Judge Romeo Buenaventura canceled the November 7 hearing and rescheduled it for November 21 and December 5.
