Dante' update: Metro Manila now under Signal No. 1

Tropical cyclone "Dante" is expected to make landfall over Batangas later today, according to the state weather bureau.

THE National Capital Region (NCR) and surrounding areas have been placed under Signal No. 1 as tropical cyclone "Dante" nears Luzon Island.

In its 8:00 a.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) located "Dante" over the southern coastal waters of Romblon, Romblon.

"Dante" currently packs maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph.

The cyclone is now moving west at 25 kilometers per hour and is expected to be located in the vicinity of Taysan, Batangas by 5:00 p.m. today.

Signal No. 2 has been placed over the southern portion of Quezon, Batangas, the southern portion of Laguna, Marinduque, Oriental Mindoro, the extreme northern portion of Occidental Mindoro, Romblon, the western portion of Masbate including Burias Island,

The northern portion of Capiz, Aklan and the, and the extreme northeastern portion of Iloilo.

Meanwhile, Signal No. 1 has been placed over Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, the western portion of Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Benguet, the extreme southern portion of Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, the western portion of Quirino, the central and southern portion of Aurora, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Bulacan, Metro Manila, Rizal, the rest of Quezon, the rest of Laguna, Cavite, Occidental Mindoro, Calamian Islands, Cuyo Islands, the western portion of Camarines Norte, the western portion of Camarines Sur, the western portion of Albay, the rest of Masbate including Ticao Island, and the western portion of Sorsogon, Antique, the rest of Aklan, the rest of Capiz, the rest of Iloilo, Guimaras, the northern portion of Negros Occidental, the extreme northern portion of Negros Oriental, and the northwestern portion of Cebu including Bantayan Islands.

Metro Manila residents are advised to expect moderate to heavy rainfall, with strong possibility of flooding and landslides. (ONT)
