Two persons who were claiming a package that arrived on May 30 at the Central Mail Exchange Center in NAIA were arrested after the package was found to contain shabu worth P5.1 million.

The Bureau of Customs at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (BoC-NAIA) arrested two package claimants Thursday at the Central Mail Exchange Center for a set of toy drums from Mexico that contained 750 grams of shabu worth P5.1 million. The package arrived on May 30.

This is the 14th drug bust this year, according to BoC-NAIA.

Customs authorities said that the two suspects were arrested during "a successful anti-drug interdiction operation jointly conducted by the BoC-NAIA, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Force in CMEC on June 2, 2022."

"At about 5:45 p.m., the consignee, a certain resident of Cainta, Rizal, and his cohort, were arrested after trying to claim the package at Central Mail Exchange Center in Pasay City," the BoC-NAIA said.

The drugs were initially discovered by the BoC during x-ray scanning which yielded suspicious images. The package was subsequently subjected to full physical examination.
