Cebu Pacific wants to cash in on the rise in domestic travel in the past couple of weeks, with Filipinos flocking to tourist destinations like Boracay, Siargao, and Palawan after restrictions were loosened by both the national and local governments.

THE COVID-19 pandemic put a halt in air travel in the past year which ultimately caused a downturn in the aviation industry.

One of the local airlines that was badly affected by the pandemic is the country’s leading budget carrier, Cebu Pacific.

With travel restrictions being lifted along with the start of the vaccination program in the country, Cebu Pacific hopes to win back its customers and encourage them to travel and visit other places again.

One way in which they are doing this is by permanently scrapping rebooking fees, something that would normally cost between P1200- P1500 per ticket.

The strategic move aims to boost sales and restore passenger confidence in air travel.

According to Cebu Pacific Vice President for Marketing and Customer Experience Candice Iyog, this change is effective immediately.

“As we work on rebuilding our network and supporting domestic tourism, we will continue to listen to our passengers so we can make it more convenient for every Juan to fly again.”

She clarified that while there are no more fees, passengers may still be subjected to minimal fare differences when rebooking.

There has been a rise in domestic travel in the past couple of weeks, with Filipinos flocking to tourist destinations like Boracay, Siargao, and Palawan after restrictions were loosened by both the national and local governments.

Although domestic travel is now being encouraged, most destinations still require standard COVID-19 protocols such as negative RT-PCR tests and wearing of face masks.

Passengers should also be responsible enough to only travel if they are not feeling any symptoms such as cough, colds, sore throat, or fever among many others to save not just themselves and their family, but those around them. (MO)
