The package containing 1.8 kilos of high-grade marijuana was declared as carrying cookies, balloons, toys and school supplies.

GOVERNMENT operatives nabbed a claimant of P2.1 million worth of kush (marijuana) in a controlled delivery operation in Marikina City, the Bureau of Customs (BoC) said.

The suspect, Arthur Antonio, was claiming the package when BoC-NAIA, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and NAIA-Inter Agency Drug Interdiction Group agents apprehended him at 12:50 p.m. Tuesday (September 7).

Customs authorities said a certain Allan Gatchalian from California, USA, shipped the package to Manila.

The package was declared as carrying cookies, balloons, toys and school supplies.

Upon checking the box, it contained 1.8 kilos of kush or high-grade marijuana, which the bureau said, have an estimated market value of P2.198 million.

The BoC-NAIA said further investigation is underway against the claimant "for possible violation of Section 1114 of RA 10863 also known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act and RA 9165 also know as the Anti-Illegal Drugs Act."

"As parcels and package movement increase as part of the new normal, the Port of NAIA remains vigilant in enforcing border protection measures under BoC Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero," the bureau said in a statement.
