Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) general manager Ed Monreal has appealed to passengers "to be responsible travelers and to mind both their safety and that of others who will be taking the same flight with them."

Airport authorities reminded passengers to wait for the release of their reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) result before going to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) to avoid inconvenience.

This call comes on the heels of multiple interceptions made by airport security personnel of travelers who attempted to enter NAIA without a RT-PCR test result.

Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) general manager Ed Monreal has appealed to passengers "to be responsible travelers and to mind both their safety and that of others who will be taking the same flight with them."

He said that passengers should wait for their RT-PCR result and also discouraged passengers not to go to the airport to catch their flight if they test positive for Covid-19.

According to MIAA, from January 1-15, 2022, 68 passengers were intercepted without proper health documents while being checked at NAIA's terminal entrances.

Most of them has claimed that they forgot or did not check their results before heading for NAIA.

Last year, around 576 travelers were barred from boarding their flights by airport and airline authorities after having found to be carrying positive RT-PCR results.

"The numbers are really appalling. This behavior of some airline passengers is truly disturbing especially now that cases of infection is growing by the day," Monreal said.
“Hindi pwede ang palusot dito (there is no excuse for this). The airlines are duty bound to follow the regulations of the country of destination. There is no chance that a passenger can skip being checked of this very important requirement - no way at all," he added.

The local airlines on Monday (January 17) have started implementing the national government’s “no vaccination, no ride” policy.

Domestic passengers were reminded to have their vaccination card ready and valid government-issued identification card with photo as these documents will be required from the travelers upon check-in.

The MIAA also advised passengers who have clarifications regarding the implementation of the policy to contact their airline as they have been directed by the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) to carry out the order.
