Face masks have become a way of life - and the visual arts is now taking notice.

Thus, the fundraising campaign series called “Changing the Fashion Narrative” was born.

GIVING local fashion designers the platform and the kind of empowerment they need is the priority of the Fashion Designers Alliance (FaDAL).

It has become a path where the next generation of artists may traverse along to witness what goes on in the fashion industry and eventually join it.

Levenson Rodriguez, its creator-in-chief, put up an initiative for the FaDAL to direct its efforts to help combat and manage the effects of the pandemic.

Thus, the fundraising campaign series called “Changing the Fashion Narrative” was born.

Last year, the first of this series of campaigns was launched. It was called “Banig” and it was a project between FaDAL and the Headshot Clinic by Niccolo Cosme.

It was a huge success, seeing as they were able to help fund the education of Sulodnon (an indigenous tribe in Panay) children.

This year, the theme revolves around face masks. ArtMasks are basically creative renditions of non-medical grade masks, and each creative design represents countries that are badly affected by the pandemic.

There were masks that served as odes to Gypsy of Russia, the Makeda of Africa, Romero of Spain, Vritra of India, Vinicunda of Peru, and more. Each piece was creatively thought out and they came out colorful and perfect.

These ArtMasks were auctioned off, and the team is looking to have another set by May but the design will represent the Philippines’ local festivals. (EFO)
