Megaworld Corporation sees the Southwoods Mall complex in Binan City as Laguna province’s newest transport hub.

The partnership is also envisioned to improve the delivery of terminal services to PUV operators and benefit thousands of commuters heading south from Metro Manila and vice versa, it added.

BINAN CITY, Laguna- WITH the expected increase in population and growth in economic activities, Megaworld Corporation is betting on Southwoods Mall in this city to become the province’s newest transportation hub.

This, after Township Transport Terminal Inc. (T31), a Megaworld corporation, recently signed an agreement with MWM Terminals Inc., another Megaworld subsidiary and operator of the Paranaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX), to “interconnect” PITX and Southwoods Mall Terminal.

The agreement is seen to establish seamless connectivity between Southwoods and the PITX, the country’s first landport in Paranaque City, Megaworld said in a statement.

The partnership is also envisioned to improve the delivery of terminal services to PUV operators and benefit thousands of commuters heading south from Metro Manila and vice versa, it added.

"Megaworld currently has 26 townships all over the country. And we have a growing community, people who lived and worked there. That is why it is important to us to create seamless accessibility and mobility to and from our townships,” said Megaworld chief strategic officer Kevin Tan.

Currently, Southwoods Mall Terminal is served by JAC Liner buses plying the routes Ayala (Makati City) – Southwoods and Lucena City – Southwoods.

Most provincial buses from Southern Luzon currently stop at PITX or at the Santa Rosa Integrated Terminal (SRIT) following a directive from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) under the “new normal.”

New routes added

Meanwhile, the LTFRB has also authorized the resumption of bus routes in Southern Luzon and Bicol Region as the country gears up to relax quarantine protocols.

Memorandum Circular No. 2021-009 allowed the resumption of provincial bus routes to San Juan in Batangas; Calauag, Guinayangan and San Francisco in Quezon province; Legazpi City, Pio Duran, and Tabaco City in Albay; and Daet, Camarines Norte, starting March 4 (Thursday).

Under the amended routes, all bus routes to Quezon and Bicol provinces will stop at PITX. (ONT)
