Residents, including the brother of a local executive, foiled an attempt by a group of men to kidnap a Chinese in Cavinti, Laguna.
THE alert actions of passersby and the brother of a local executive allegedly foiled an attempt to kidnap a Chinese national inside a resort in Cavinti, Laguna, according to local police.
The victim, identified as Jiang Yong Lu alias Luis Yu, 41 years old and temporarily staying at the Aqua Scape Resort in Barangay West Talaongan, is now under the care of the Cavinti municipal police .
His driver, identified as Alejandro Ravena is reportedly being for his alleged complicity in the failed kidnapping.
According to a report by the Cavinti Municipal Police Station, Lu and Ravena went to the Saddle Hotel in Barangay West Talaongan to supposedly meet some people last September 19.
Unknown to the victim, seven persons allegedly in connivance with Ravena, were planning to kidnap Lu, probers said.
However, as the suspects were dragging Lu to their vehicles, Anjo Oliveros, brother of Cavinti Mayor Milbert Oliveros, immediately took action when he saw the commotion.
Other passersby also intervened, forcing the kidnappers to abandon their plan and drive away, leaving Lu behind.
Cavinti police are now conducting a follow-up operation against the kidnappers, who fled from the scene in two unmarked vehicles.
