Health authorities in Laguna raise concern over babies contracting COVID-19

HEALTH authorities in Laguna province are working overtime to prevent the spread of Covid-19 virus following reports of rising cases of babies contracting the disease.

The latest case was a 3-week-old baby boy in Barangay Santo Angel, San Pablo City who was among the 12 new cases reported in the city last March 2.

The COVID-19 bulletin issued by the city’s Anti-COVID-19 Task Force showed that the infant was among the 12 new validated virus carriers in the locality that also include two girls, both aged 3.

The baby boy, who had a history of exposure to a confirmed virus carrier, is asymptomatic and is now under home quarantine.

Meanwhile, a 10-month-old baby girl from Barangay Santa Monica, also in San Pablo City, has recovered from COVID-19.

The baby girl first tested positive for the virus on February 17 after she had an exposure to a confirmed COVID-19 patient.

As of March 1, Laguna province has logged a total of 20,433 COVID-19 cases with 19,412 recoveries and 525 fatalities.

San Pablo City has reported at least 69 active and 2,025 confirmed COVID-19 cases as of that date. (ONT)
