Including the bragging rights they are about to bring home in South Korea, the 7-member boy group took home Artist of the Year, Favorite Pop Duo or Group and Favorite Pop Song.

The K-Pop world superstar boy group BTS won three major awards in the 2021 American Music Awards on Sunday night in Los Angeles (Monday morning Manila time).

Including the bragging rights they are about to bring home in South Korea, the 7-member boy group took home Artist of the Year, Favorite Pop Duo or Group and Favorite Pop Song.

Their performance of their collaboration single with Coldplay ‘My Universe’ took place shortly before BTS won Favorite Pop Duo or Group.

BTS also performed “Butter,” which won Favorite Pop Song earlier in the night.

Megan Thee Stallion was scheduled to join BTS for their performance of “Butter” at this year’s AMA but due to personal matters Megan Thee Stallion was not able to make it to the music event.

It was their leader RM who started their acceptance speech on behalf of the group.

"Four years ago, we had given this first-time-ever TV live performance at this stage AMAs for 'DNA.' We were so excited and nervous at the time. And it's been a long and amazing ride since then, but nobody could have ever bet on the odds of us standing here receiving this award. Except for the ARMY. Seven boys from Korea, united by a love for music, met the love and support from all the ARMY all over the world."

RM then said the group would "never take this for granted." Suga, 28, then took to the mic to address the crowd in Korean.

"We just want to make people happy with our music. We believe that there's a world to open in the beginning of our new chapter," said Jungkook, 24. "We learned in the past two years that each and every moment is precious.

Other highlights

Cardi B was the host for this year’s AMA and she did not disappoint on the red carpet.

The singer and rapper wore a gold mask paired with matching metal fingernails, a black veil and a floor-length strapless gown on the red carpet.

Doja Cat and Megan Thee Stallion were the top winning female artists at this year's AMAs, also with three awards.

Newcomer Olivia Rodrigo had the most nominations of the night, with seven, while The Weeknd had six. She eventually won the award ‘New Artist of the Year’.

Taylor Swift, being the most decorated artist in AMA history, won ‘Favorite Female Pop Artist’ and ‘Favorite Pop Album’ for her record "Evermore."
