Time magazine recognizes Filipina broadway superstar Lea Salonga as a TIME100 Impact Awardee.
Multi-awarded actress and singer Lea Salonga who was awarded with the Olivier, Tony Award, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, and Theatre World awards is adding another prestigious plum under her belt.
Time magazine announced Salonga as one of the TIME100 Impact Awardees for 2022. This award recognizes "leaders who, through sustained effort, have done extraordinary work to shape the future of their industries and the world at large."
For a feature write up written by Sanya Mansoor, she described her as a ‘life-long role model for kids of color.’
'In her four-decade award-winning career as an actress and singer, Salonga has emerged as not only a Disney and Broadway icon but a role model for children of color. Salonga prides herself on promoting representation in Hollywood and on Broadway, and showing underrepresented groups that their stories matter,' the article read.
'It's not easy breaking down racial barriers in historically white spaces and roles, and Salonga says she relies on her sense of humor, which she describes as sometimes inappropriate and sometimes irreverent to stay sane,' it added.
Along with the Filipina Broadway star, other TIME100 Impact Awardees are Alia Bhatt, actor and producer; Gregory L. Robinson, former James Webb Space Telescope Program director; Dr. Pardis Sabeti, computational geneticist; and Salonga, singer, and actor.
The TIME100 Impact Awards will be an invitation-only cocktail party at the National Gallery Singapore on Sunday, October 2, 2022. After the awarding ceremony, this will be followed by a viewing party for the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix. The event will be held in partnership with Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) and Singapore Tourism Board (STB).
Ahead of the TIME100 Impact Award Ceremony, TIME will also organize the inaugural TIME100 Leadership Forum. An intimate event bringing together CEOs and other innovative thinkers from Asia and around the world to find out how they are using their platform to build a better world.
