MSMEs will be empowered to protect their IPs and file under international systems with the help of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines.

BUSINESSES have every right to protect their intellectual property.

This is why the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) have agreed to enforce this right on businesses and help them rebound due to the pandemic.

IPOPHL Director General Rowel S. Barba, PCCI President Benedicto V. Yujuico, and PCCI Director Alfredo M. Yao all signed a Memorandum of Agreement last May 31, 2021 at the PCCI Innovation Center for this.

Here, the PCCI commits to have its members trained well to help provide IP-related assistance. It is currently concocting plans of developing a permanent IP-related service for its members as well.

IPOPHL plans to promote IP assets from the PCCI community by featuring them on the IP Depot, an online marketing platform to boost MSMEs’ IP products and services.

Aside from that, PCCI members are also to be provided ample commercialization and marketing support.

Outstanding Filipino inventors and creators are also to be recognized through the annual Alfredo M. Yao Awards. Winners will be given access to IPOPHL’s commercial patent search service.

MSMEs will be empowered enough to protect their IPs and file under international systems with the help of the two organizations.

Other efforts to be done are providing venues, mentorship, and IP business advice for joint technology and innovation-related activities, showcasing incubated technologies, and helping each other invite participants to engage in campaigns.

This partnership will, indeed, strengthen all MSMEs’ rights with regard to their IPs. (EFO)
