Action director and film artist Francis “Jun” Posadas posted on his Facebook a photo of himself, Lobo, Batangas Mayor Jurly Manalo, a scion of movie production family, a lady guest, actress Katya Santos and comedian Dennis Padilla by way of greeting the town head in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. “Parang (Like a throwback),” described Francis the signs and symbols of the picture.

It was a time Posadas attended the birthday celebration of his friend politician when other showbiz denizens dropped by to personally send their greetings. “Malapit talaga sa mga taga-showbiz ang Lobo. Kahit sina Katya at Dennis, kahit malayo, dumalo sila (Lobo is indeed close to showbiz. Even Katya and Dennis although the place was not near, they proceeded and joined the fun),” said Jun.

Even character actors and action stars like Jess Sanchez, Leo Lazaro, Gerry Roman, Richard Duran, among others would travel all the way from Manila to Batangas just to frolic with the celebrant who has been part of their movie life. The Manalos have produced films like “Tampisaw” and “Masarap na Pugad” which both starred Aleck Bovick, “Naglalayag” which top billed Nora Aunor, etc.

Through Jun, celebrities just like Katya and Dennis keep on coming to Lobo. As a matter of fact, Santos and Padilla have been recollecting and sharing good memories of their visit to the coastal town which has been a location for most of unforgettable movies—the latest of which was “Balangiga 1901” being featured Ejay Falcon and Jason Abalos about the native uprising of Samareños against American imperialism at the turn of the twentieth (20th) century. Some of Lobo’s spots were converted into early American period sets.

In deference to the health protocols imposed by the authorities, showbiz people and gatherings are attended with wearing of masks and face shields, spraying alcohol and sanitizers and maintaining social distancing.

The emergence of the health crisis, though, has limited the influx of movie people to Lobo but the well-wishers don’t forget to recall their cavorting with the town head and his townspeople.
