Once completed, passengers passing through Batangas Port will have to undergo a 10-day quarantine at the new Provincial Quarantine Hub set up by the Batangas provincial government inside the maritime terminal.

BATANGAS CITY -- In an effort to secure the health and safety of passengers at the Batangas International Port (BIP), the provincial government said it will construct a Provincial Quarantine Hub (BPQH) right inside the busy port in compliance with the health guidelines set by the National Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF).

The project is also in line with Executive Order No. 2HIM2 – 06, Series of 2021, signed by Gov. DoDo Mandanas last May 12.

The quarantine hub will be constructed and operated at the Batangas Provincial Livelihood Center inside the pier compound.

Batangas Port is the declared Gateway of the Philippine nautical highway, and the biggest domestic passenger port in the country, serving over 7 million passengers annually – almost three times more than the Port of Manila.

With the escalating number of Covid-19 cases nationwide, the provincial government will set up the quarantine hub or health center as part of its Health Integration Management, guided by the Universal Health Care Act.

The Provincial Livelihood Center has been previously inspected by the Department of Health (DOH) – Calabarzon as a site for an isolation facility and quarantine center, which can accommodate 400 beds.

All arriving passengers have to go through 14 days of quarantine – the first 10 days of which shall be observed at the BPQH, with the remaining 4 days to be completed under home quarantine.

The hub will be under the direction and supervision of the Batangas Provincial Health Office. (IA)
