There is mounting opposition to the plan of the local government of San Pedro City for a separate quarantine facility for COVID-19 patients in the city.
The local council of Barangay Riverside, in the upper villages of San Pedro City, passed on July 20, a resolution expressing their opposition to use Bulwagang Magsaysay, a multi-purpose hall at the nearby Barangay Narra, as isolation facility.
The barangay council claimed the city government did not consult local officials for the use of the hall as an alternate facility for COVID-19 patients.
They expressed concern about the possible spread of the virus among the local population.
No COVID-19 Case … Yet
As of press time, Barangay Riverside has posted zero cases of COVID-19.
The city government has already designated the San Pedro Central School as its own isolation facility in the wake of the continued rise of COVID-19 cases in the city.
As of last Thursday, July 23, the City Health Office has logged 211 active cases, with 116 recoveries and 18 deaths.
