Leyte Governor Dominic L. Petilla encourages all Leyteños to be tested for COVID-19 when flu-like symptoms occur.

Those with flu-like symptoms should not be embarrassed and immediately present themselves to health units in their areas and seek their help and endorsement to be tested for possible coronavirus disease infection.

The governor explained that his office is pushing for COVID-9 testing for all residents in the province classified as suspected carriers.

Petilla said about 1,500 individuals had undergone rapid testing in the different towns in the province.

Coordinate

Local government officials were advised to subject anyone in their locality who exhibits flu-like symptoms regardless of age, with or without travel history.

Petilla said LGU officials should immediately inform their rural health units or the city health office and request for rapid test or polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test.
This will then be coordinated with the provincial and district hospitals.

Leyte province has 11 hospitals, all with the capacity to test suspected coronavirus carriers.

These are: Leyte Provincial Hospital in Palo town; Abuyog District Hospital in Abuyog; Carigara District Hospital in Carigara; Ormoc District Hospital in Ormoc City; Western Leyte Hospital in Baybay City; Northwestern Leyte District Hospital in Calubian; Burauen District Hospital in Burauen; Hilongos District Hospital in Hilongos; Tabango District Hospital in Tabango; Municipal Health Office in Sta. Fe, Leyte, and Dr. Manuel B. Veloso Memorial Hospital in Palompon.

No Longer COVID-Free

Leyte, which was COVID-19 free until the middle of May, has had the highest number of cases in the region.

As of June 18, the province had 159 confirmed cases.
