Eastern Visayas COVID Cases Surge From 90 To 132 In A Day

There is no stopping in the increase of COVID-19 cases in Region 8.

Latest report from the regional health agency claims highest number of added cases for a day, with 44 new cases recorded.

The total number of coronavirus cases in Eastern Visayas has leaped from 90 to 132.

Earlier, while netizens were anxiously waiting for confirmation by the Department of Health Regional Office (DOH-8), Alang-alang town Mayor Lovely Yu went ahead and confirmed the “first COVID-19 cases in Alang-alang”.

Mayor Yu, in her post on social media, did not specify the number.

42 New Cases

DOH-8, meanwhile, claimed as the “highest number of confirmed COVID-19 case since the first recorded case last March 23.”

The official DOH-8 report stated, “a total 44 confirmed cases, of which 42 are new cases and two are repeat test of Patients EV-26 from Tarangnan, Samar and EV-45 from Naval, Biliran.”

Posting the highest number of new cases is Alang-alang, Leyte with 17 first accounted COVID-19 cases.

In Dagami town, there were 11 newly accounted cases; Tacloban, 1; Lapaz, 1; Bato, 5; Gandara in Samar, 2; Hilongos, 1; Almeria in Biliran, 1; Macrohon, Southern Leyte, 1, and Padre Burgos, also in Southern Leyte, 2.

Officials of the regional health agency earlier expressed apprehension over the increasing cases in the region. “This trend is alarming.”

Most of the local government executives in the region said they are prepared for the unfolding eventuality.
